Extra Credit - Monday, November 8
There's a new film out, "For Colored Girls" (based on a play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf") with an amazing cast: Kimberly Elise, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Whoopi Goldberg, and Phylicia Rashad among others.
The movie deals with some important themes and ideas that connect to what we're discussing in Film Studies. Although we won't be able to discuss the film in class, I think it's worth your seeing it and discussing it here.
So, for extra credit, go watch "For Colored Girls" and write your reaction in the comments section. Explain what you thought of the film and why. What stood out? What was memorable? Did the movie seem true? What did it make you think about?
Your comment needs to be at least 100 words long and posted by 8PM Wednesday, November 17th to receive extra credit.

I believed the new movie For Colored Girls made an impact on the way i see African Americans. This movie portrayed the values of an Black women and the things they go through during life. The thing that stood out was Whoopi Goldberg character as a lady who surrounded herself with the spirts. This movie showed me that there is always a diffrent way to see things. It made me think about the daily things that goes on in my school or neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteFor colored girls was a great movie. I think it was Tyler’s best movie yet. It sends out a positive, spiritual, inspirational and poetic message. These things do happen in reality, date rape, child murder, abuse, men on the down low. The fact that black people acted in that movie does not say that this movie is speaking to an audience of JUST BLACK MEN and BLACK WOMEN. Face the facts it happens every second of everyday, doesn’t matter if your black, green, purple, yellow or white. I would definitely watch the play as well. The play is called For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuff.
