Extra Credit - Friday, October 29

Happy Halloween, everyone!  This is the perfect time of year to watch horror movies.  Today we looked at "The Scariest Scenes in the World."  For extra credit, go to youtube or movieclips.com (or any other place with video) and find a link to a scene that you consider the "scariest in the world."  Post a link to the scene in the COMMENTS section so we can watch it and write a paragraph description of what you think makes the scene so scary.

So... for extra credit:

1) Post a link to a scary scene
2) Write a paragraph explaining what makes it so scary
3) Be sure to include your name to get the extra credit

  1. I showed my scary scene in class on Friday. It is the diner scene from "Mulholland Drive." Watch it here:

I think this scene is so effective because the scare at the end is so jarring. It's strange because we know it's coming (he tells the whole story of the dream and the camera walks us right up to the dumpster), but it's still terrifying anyway. Probably the scariest scene I have ever watched.

This scene is scary becuase of how the clues builds up in each part of the scene. The ending of the scene is very unsuspecting which makes the scene even more scary. This probably one of most scariest scene i have ever scene becuase i would have never thought that birds can do this to people.

  4. I’m not easily scared by horror movies but I must admit” The Ring" scared me to death. Surprisingly I found myself closing my eyes in parts of the movie, and I freely confess to hiding my face during the intense scenes. Specifically when Rachel is watching the one mystery tape, which showed an Asian girl, dressed in all white clothes, with long black hair sitting in an all white empty room. She is sitting in the chair with her long black hair hiding her face. Suddenly a close up shot occurs in this tape the Asian girl's long black hair is removed from her face and her terrifying white pale face is viewed in rapid timing. Truthfully, this is one of the most scariest scenes I’ve ever viewed in a horror movie because it filled me up with so much curiosity of how the Asian girls face looked under her long black hair then a close up takes place and answers my question in a thrilling exciting way which made my heart beat.

  5. "28 Weeks Later"

Personally, horror movies are my favorite genre! I just love that rush you get when you're terrified; or, better yet, that rush you get with the anxiety holding you at the edge of your seat waiting for that moment...and then BOOM there it is! This scene, however, scared me because it caught me off guard. Everything was so quiet, calm... and then out of no where there's that explosive attack from the zombies crashing through the wooden boards. Whats crazy about this movie is that everything happens so fast; its eerie isn't it? Also, these zombies aren't like back in th day; oh no, they are stronger, faster, and smarter. They also switch from human to "undead" rapidly. You really don't see any of this coming, and thats what I love about this movie; I liked the sequel the best. Now a days its hard to find a good, scary movie that will make you think and haunt you in your sleep. I think this one does the trick! This and "The Strangers" you all have got to check that out if you haven't seen it yet. Creepiest movie of the decade (possibly).

I think this scene is scary because of the way Marcus Nispel showed an excellent example of how you act under pressure like she did when she chopped off his arm she was scared but she acted on instinct.
